Therapists are different. I don't mean different in the sense of being odd... although there's undoubtedly some truth to that. I mean we have different styles, different ways of thinking about and approaching personal issues. And it makes a great deal of sense for you to be comfortable with your therapist's style. I treat clients the same way I would hope to be treated. Well, maybe not how I would hope to be treated (like royalty!), but how I would need to be treated to make the progress I want. That means you can expect a safe and supportive environment in which we will, step-by-step, explore and work through your issues. It also means your therapy will be as individual as you are, designed to fit you.
I occasionally make attempts at humor. Why? Partly because smiling feels better, and is healthier for us, than frowning. What's equally important, however, is that humor invites us to step outside our stuck place and, if only for a moment, adopt a different perspective. That's an important step towards finding new solutions, towards getting unstuck. In our work together, you'll discover that your personal story, what you have to say, will be heard and valued. You'll also find that I'm an active participant in the over-all process: asking questions, providing feedback, and, where appropriate, teaching new skills. Working as a team, in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, we will give you a well-grounded understanding of what has been happening to you, explore your options for improving the parts you don't much care for, and then build the perspectives, skills, and strategies you need... to break free of that stuck place and get going again... creating the life you want.
I work with adult individuals and couples. We meet by appointment in my home office, on a quiet, tree-lined street in Bethesda. Appointments are offered during the day and evening, Monday through Thursday. A typical session lasts 50 minutes and extended sessions are also available. Nearby parking is either on the street or in the driveway, only a few steps from the door leading into our meeting room.
The typical fee for individuals and couples is $125 for each 50 minute session. The first visit, a 75 minute intake session is $185. I ask to be paid at the end of each session and provide receipts clients can use to seek reimbursement from their insurance carrier. I am a licensed Psychologist in the state of Maryland. Because it is required by Maryland State Law, almost all insurance companies will reimburse for my psychotherapy services at some rate, for some number of visits. There's a caveat. Like many health care professionals, I have refused to accept the anti-patient policies of the managed care system; I have not joined any managed care network. As a result, clients are reimbursed for my therapy services at a slightly lower rate. Exactly what that rate is will vary by plan. If you are covered by a managed care company, they can tell you what their reimbursement rates are for out-of-network providers.
