Personal issues and Mondays... who needs them? I can't do much about Mondays. But if you're not thinking, feeling, or acting the way you would like to, if you feel stuck and aren't quite sure how to make things better... maybe I can help. For more than thirty years, I've been helping clients see their way through personal challenges to brighter, happier lives. We've successfully dealt with troubles like depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, stress, unwanted thinking, phobias, and loss... to name but a few. So, if you're in the Bethesda, Maryland area, and feeling a little stuck, the number is (301) 263-0570.

Therapists are different. I don't mean different in the sense of being odd... although there's undoubtedly some truth to that. I mean we have different styles, different ways of thinking about and approaching personal issues. And it makes a great deal of sense for you to be comfortable with your therapist's style. I treat clients the same way I would hope to be treated. Well, maybe not how I would hope to be treated (like royalty!), but how I would need to be treated in order to make the progress I want. That means you can expect a safe and supportive environment in which we will explore and work through your issues. It also means your therapy will be as individual as you are, designed to fit you.

I occasionally make attempts at humor. Why? Partly because it's fun, and I like fun. But also because humor invites us to step outside our stuck place and, if only for a moment, adopt a different perspective. That's an important step towards finding new solutions, towards getting unstuck. Another annoying trait of mine is that I tend to be highly interactive. If you are looking for a therapist who sits quietly and doesn't have much to say — sorry, you won't find him here. That said, let me be clear. Your personal story, what you have to say, will be heard and valued. Within that framework, you'll also find I'm an active participant in the process: asking questions, providing feedback, and, where appropriate, teaching new skills. Working together, in a positive, friendly atmosphere, we will give you a better understanding of what is happening to you, explore your options, and then build the skills and strategies needed to help you move beyond your problems to the life you want.

I work with adult individuals and couples. We meet by appointment in my home office, on a quiet, tree-lined street in Bethesda. Appointments are offered during the day and evening, Monday through Thursday. A typical session lasts 50 minutes and extended sessions are also available. Nearby parking is either on the street or in the driveway, only a few steps from the door leading into our meeting room.

The fee for individuals and couples is $125 for each 50 minute session. The first visit, a 75 minute intake session is $185. I ask to be paid at the end of each session and provide receipts clients can use to seek reimbursement from their insurance carrier. I am a licensed Psychologist in the state of Maryland. Because it is required by Maryland State Law, almost all insurance companies will reimburse for my psychotherapy services at some rate, for some number of visits. There's a caveat. Like many health professionals, I have refused to accept the anti-patient policies of the managed care system; I have not joined any managed care network. As a result, clients are reimbursed for my services at a slightly lower rate. Exactly what that rate is will vary by plan. If you are covered by a managed care company, they can tell you what their reimbursement rates are for out-of-network providers.

The sooner you take care of what's bothering you, the sooner you can start feeling better. Give me a call and we can discuss your issues and how we might go about resolving them. If you like what you hear, if we seem to be a good fit, we can set up a time for your first visit. Once again, that number is:
(301) 263-0570.
